A new directive regarding unlawful gaming has been released by the Commercial gaming Management of Cambodia (CGMC).

Aun Pornmoniroth, the Minister of Finance and the Head of the CGMC, signed it on February 19.

This occurs just a few days after Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet demanded more stringent regulations on illicit gaming in the nation, specifically focusing on lotteries.

The order required licenced operators to show their licence "at all times" at the site and to abide by its provisions.

This is due to the directive's additional requirement that local governments collaborate with the CGMC to regularly examine gaming establishments to make sure that no illicit activity is occurring.

According to the instruction, "public order, social security, and people's livelihoods in the village communes are seriously affected by Keno, lotteries, and other illegal gambling."

"Gambling firms must operate in compliance with the law in order to assure viability, uphold good public order, and uphold social ethics.”

The Gambling Suppression Law, which states that anyone engaging in unlawful gambling may face a fine ranging from KHR5-20m ($1,225 to $5,000) coupled with imprisonment up to five years, will be applied to anyone found in violation of the law.

The directive goes on to say, "The relevant authorities must take prompt legal action and cooperate in managing, monitoring, and reporting all activities that involve any kind of illegal gambling."
